Five reasons to get married at Daviot Steading in Autumn

We might be biased, but Daviot Steading is simply stunning in the autumn.

The stone buildings, cobbled courtyard and surrounding countryside come into their own as the colours start to change. Add in the softer light, seasonal flowers and an excuse to make everything feel a little cosier, and there's a lot to love about an autumn wedding in the Highlands.

If you're still picking the date for your wedding, here are five reasons autumn is high on our list at Daviot Steading.

1. Those gorgeous autumn colours

There's something special about the Highlands at this time of year. The greens gradually turn to gold, amber, orange and deep red, creating a beautiful backdrop for wedding photographs.

At Daviot Steading, the changing colours work particularly well against our traditional stone buildings and cobbled courtyard. Beyond the Steading, the surrounding fields bring another dimension to the landscape, with golden crops before the harvest and the changing countryside as the season progresses.

It's a lovely time to get outdoors for photographs, with plenty of opportunities to capture the colours of the season.

2. That beautiful autumn light

Autumn brings a different quality of light, and wedding photographers love it for good reason!

With the sun sitting lower in the sky, the light becomes softer and warmer, giving photographs that lovely golden glow. It's particularly beautiful around the courtyard, through the stone archways and across the surrounding countryside.

And as the days become shorter, you can capture those 'golden-hour' photographs earlier in the day, leaving plenty of time to get back to celebrating with your guests.

Some of our favourite wedding photographs at Daviot have been taken on bright autumn afternoons, with the sun filtering through the trees and lighting up the old stonework.

3. Cosy celebrations and a little autumn atmosphere

Autumn is made for gathering together, and there's something lovely about a wedding that feels warm, relaxed and welcoming.

Picture your guests enjoying drinks in the courtyard, gathering around the fire pit, toasting marshmallows and catching up as the afternoon turns into evening.

Inside, our Long Room takes on a wonderful atmosphere with soft lighting, candles and beautifully dressed tables. It's a gorgeous setting for your wedding breakfast, particularly with long banquet-style tables bringing everyone together.

The combination of crisp autumn air outside and warm, inviting spaces inside is one of our favourite things about weddings at this time of year.

4. A little magic as day turns to night

As the evenings draw in, the lighting around Daviot really starts to shine.

Our Pagoda looks wonderful with its festoon lighting, creating a lovely atmosphere for ceremonies and, for smaller weddings, an intimate space for dancing later in the evening. For larger celebrations, our double marquee offers something equally special. Draped ceilings, twinkling fairy lights and views out towards the surrounding fields create a beautiful setting for your wedding breakfast and evening celebrations.

As daylight fades, the lights become part of the atmosphere, and the whole venue takes on a different feel.

It's one of those lovely things about an autumn wedding. You get to enjoy Daviot in daylight and see it transformed as evening arrives.

5. So many ways to make autumn your own

One of the best things about an autumn wedding is the inspiration the season brings, from flowers and decorations to food and all those little personal touches.

You might love the traditional autumn palette of burnt orange, rust, burgundy and gold, or prefer something softer with creams, greens and natural textures. Seasonal flowers, foliage, berries and candles can all look wonderful against the stone and timber at Daviot. You can keep things simple or go all out with your styling.

And then there's the food! Autumn is a lovely time for a hearty wedding breakfast, comforting flavours and a menu that brings everyone together around the table.

There's plenty of room to put your own stamp on the season and create a wedding that feels just right for you.
